GOT QUESTIONS?
WE'VE GOT ANSWERS
Everything you need to know about booking, the tattoo process, aftercare, and pricing is covered below. Any questions don't hesitate to get in touch .
Where are you based?
I’m based at Chapters tattoo studio in the jewellery quarter in Birmingham UK.
It’s a private studio with plenty of pay and display street parking near by and car parks. It’s about a 15 minute walk from new street station. There are several hotels nearby to choose from should you need.
There is a small Tesco, Costa, Greggs and subway nearby as well as several cafes and you can of course order food into the studio should you need.
What information is required to book?
Please include a description of what you would like. Feel free to send any reference photos although I ask creative freedom on final image/s chosen (based on your ideas) so that I can create the best tattoo for you that fits your body.
Send clear photos of the area you would like tattooed, make sure you are standing in a straight, neutral position. In good lighting. You’ll likely have to get someone else to take these photos for you. This allows me to design specifically to you.
Give me a rough size of the area you’d like tattooed/size you’d like the piece.
If it’s a coverup please include clear photos of the existing tattoo.
All the above is super important to move forward quickly and easily with the booking process.
How do I prepare for the tattoo?
To help the tattoo process it’s a good idea to make sure you’re well hydrated and start moisturising the area you’re being tattooed daily with something such as cocoa butter a couple of weeks prior to your appointment. Exfoliating the skin is also advisable before hand but not in the few days leading up to the appointment. Do not shave the area, to avoid any razor burn. Dont drink alcohol for the few days prior and avoid the sun and tanning booths as I can’t tattoo on sunburnt skin
Make sure you eat well and try and get a good nights sleep beforehand and have a good breakfast.
Feel free to bring any food, drinks and snacks to see you through!
If you have any queries you can always contact me!
Do you do cover ups/reworks?
It completely depends on what it is you’d like covered or reworked, and what your ideas are.
You will likely have to be very open to the design and image as there are limitations, especially working with lighter/skin tones in portraits.
It’s also important you send a clear photo of the existing tattoo.
But please do not be afraid to ask as I will help if I can and if it’s not possible to cover then we can always discuss alternative options.
How long will my tattoo take?
There’s several variables when it comes to estimating time frame and so cost with realism tattoos.
*The image chosen and the detail in it.
*The size of the piece. (In fact tiny pieces can take longer than larger ones as the detail is so tight and so time consuming!) I dont do micro portraits.
*placement. Certain areas are trickier to tattoo and so can take longer.
*how your skin is to tattoo. Unfortunately this is something I won’t know until we start. Colour realism is a tricky style and works the skin quite a lot so isn’t as straightforward as some other styles, there are things you can do to help with the tattoo process, as mentioned in ‘how do I prepare for a tattoo’.
Having said the above, a ballpark is generally between 1.5 to 2 days for a portrait.
3 days to fill from ankle to side of knee.
2 days for inner forearm
I am unable to quote on sleeves/full legs and back pieces without having an idea of design.
For ongoing work I recommend booking as and when you can.
Can I block book appointments?
You can! I would only need one deposit to hold the appointments as we can either roll the deposit over at the end of the session if you pay in full for that day or send me a new deposit on that day.
It is recommended for ongoing work to block book sessions so that you can get the dates/days you’d like without a longer wait than you’d like.
Do you do guest spots and conventions?
I do occasionally guest and work at conventions. Keep an eye out on my socials for future dates and if interested please make sure to let me know the specific location or convention you’re enquiring about.
What are your rates?
I ask you arrive at the studio for 10am unless stated otherwise. My day rate in the UK is £700 for the day which will be until at least 6pm but design dependant we may run later so I ask you to be flexible on times or if you have to catch a train/leave at a certain time notify me beforehand.
My hourly rate is £100 per hour however I generally work by the day unless it’s a shorter session to complete your piece in which case it would be charged by the hour or an amount deducted from the day rate.
All bookings require a deposit of £150 (or £300 if you’re booking 2 consecutive days). This is non refundable but you can move your appointment once only with a weeks notice should you need and the deposit will be deducted from the price on the day.
